Metal Expansion Joints for Piping Systems
Metal pressure piping expansion joints are used in piping systems and are therefore, extremely popular for fire protection, cryogenics, high pressures or in applications where steam is present. As a result, we custom manufacture most of our metal expansion joints for the specific application.
- Available in sizes from 2″ to 200″ in any face to face required.
- Our flanged and weld-in styles are the most popular.
- EJMA (Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association) analysis done on all expansion joints.
- Available in virtually any alloy and in single or multiple plies. Metal expansion joints manufactured from 304, 316, and 321 stainless steel are the most common.
We offer many styles for different applications of metal expansion joints for piping systems.
This is the most basic of our metal expansion joints which involves unrestrained bellows coupled with a full flange for bolt-in or weld-end flange.
Tied Expansion Joints to Handle Pressure Surges
Tied expansion joints consist of metallic bellows with a bolt-in or weld-in end connection. They are “control units” used to prevent the expansion joint from excessive axial movement which occurs from surges in the piping system, while still allowing for lateral travel. The expansion joint stays in a parallel axis and also fixed overall length, therefore it does not exceed what was designed.
Hinged Expansion Joints
Hinged metal expansion joints are either single hinged, multiple hinged or universally hinged. Generally, hinged expansion joints can prevent damage to the joint from pressure surges and minimize shearing and torsional effects. The use of hinges allow for greater thermal movements and can also result in lower spring rates. As a result, this allows for higher pressures to be handled.
Gimbaled Expansion Joints
Gimbals are the best way to prevent shear loads and torsional loads from damaging an expansion joint. While offering lower spring rates, the use of gimbals can allow for greater lateral movements and lower spring rates. The number of gimbals depends on the application and can increase angular movements as well. Gimbals provide the best means to protect an expansion joint while in service.
Universal Expansion Joints
Universal expansion joints employ multiple bellows which are able to absorb large axial, lateral and angular movements. They can withstand larger movement planes than a simple single bellow expansion joint. The design employs a center spool piece between the bellows to allow pivoting.
Engine Exhaust Expansion Joints
Engine exhaust expansion joints are used throughout the off-road industry. They are normally manufactured in a high grade stainless steel alloy. These stainless steel expansion joints are a perfect solution on high temperature diesel systems and can also be used on trains. They provide low spring rates and are extremely flexible. We offer a variety of end connections to select from.
External Pressurized Balanced Expansion Joints
We design these expansion joints primarily in applications where the focus is on large axial movements. Our pressurized expansion joints include your choice of end connections. Pressure balanced, the expansion joint is secured eliminating pressure instability to protect the integrity of the bellows. They are used often in long piping runs and are one of the very safest products. This type of metal expansion joint is the preferred choice for steam and condensate applications. Lateral movement is very limited, since the focus is on compression and elongation – axial movements.
Pump connectors do not normally contain bellows. They are used frequently off both the discharge and suction sides of pumps. Pump connectors are very flexible and provide vibration relief. Further, they absorb thermal movements and compensate for misalignment.
Corrugated & Braided Metal Hose
We supply metallic hose in numerous alloy types. Metallic hoses are excellent for media transfer and are especially good for cryogenics, the HVAC and compressed gas industries, and automotive applications. We supply a variety of end connection fittings to meet your piping system’s needs. Customers can select from many types of metallic hose including strip-wound and corrugated varieties. Stainless steel is typically the preferred choice.
Fittings, Elbows, Tees, Etc.
We manufacture a complete line of elbows, tees and other fittings to complement our expansion joint lines. Furthermore, expansion joints that we manufacture can be connected in our facility to virtually any fitting and sent out as a complete unit.
Fixed, Floating, Van Stone Flanges & More
We offer all products with your end flange connection choice. We can accommodate virtually any flange or bolting system.
